International guest workshop with Helen Stamatakos: Pilates for Athletes – The Winning Formula
.jpeg)
Working with athletes requires more than simply making Pilates harder. It requires understanding the athlete, the demands of their sport, and how Pilates can be adapted with purpose to support performance, resilience and longevity.
Drawing on nearly 25 years of experience working with athletes across more than 30 different sports, from developing athletes throught o elite and Olympic level, Helen shares her Winning Formula.
ASSESS → TRAIN → ADAPT → OPTIMISE → ENGAGE
Part 1 – Assess and train
Movement Observation • Mat • Small Props
Explore a practical approach to observing how an athlete moves and identifying key movement priorities. Through selected movement screens, Mat work and small props, Helen will demonstrate how observation can guide exercise choice and help build strong Pilates foundations for athletic performance.
Part 2 – Adapt and optimise
Reformer • Tower • Sport-Specific Application
Take those foundations into practical apparatus programming. Using the Reformer and Tower, Helen will explore how Pilates can be adapted for different sporting demands through strength, control, load, rotation, unilateral and multi-planar movement.
Athlete and participant examples will bring the process to life, showing how the same Pilates principles can be applied differently depending on the individual and their sport.
What you’ll take away
Participants will leave with a practical and adaptable approach to observing athletic movement, connecting what they see to purposeful exercise selection, progressing from Pilates foundations to sport-specific application, and programming across Mat, small props, Reformer and Tower.
This workshop is suitable for
Pilates teachers and movement professionals with a strong Pilates foundation.
No previous Reformer or Tower teaching experience is required. You do not need to be Reformer- or Tower-certified to participate in Part 2 of the workshop. Helen will guide participants through the equipment, exercises and practical application, making this section accessible to Pilates professionals who primarily teach Mat as well as those already experienced with apparatus.
